Robin Shatto (California)

Robin Shatto is based at KPRB, Paso Robles Municipal Airport, Paso Robles, California.

I started flying in Watsonville, Ca. in 1990. I gained my Private and Instrument ratings before moving to Alaska. There, I purchased my first Cessna 170 (straight. Fabric wings). Had a ball. In my early 30’s I did not think my husband and I would be able to have children so I pursued a career in flying. I obtained my Commercial, MEL, and everything that was needed to fly right seat for a commuter service that served the small towns and villages for Alaska Airlines. No sooner than I finished my ratings, I found out I was pregnant! I was, of course, ecstatic, but the end result was my flying ambitions got put on hold.

Fast forward 23 years to October of 2018, I decided it was time to get back in the cockpit. I am now a current pilot and am flying a rented Citabria 7ECA and loving it. My goal is to get my own airplane again, a taildragger, of course, and see where it takes me. 🙂

I’m so glad I stumbled across your group!

Ratings: Private SEL, MEL, Instrument, Commercial MEL.

Aircraft flown:
Citabria 7KCAB (learned in this one!)
Cessna 152, 172
Cessna 170 (owned this one in Alaska)
Citabria 7ECA
Piper Cherokee
Piper Seminole
Aeronca Champ

Dream taildragger: Cessna 180

Thoughts on taildragging: My first flight instructor, Wanda, convinced me that it was the best way to fly, so I did it. I flew in tricycle gear for gaining additional ratings, but always come back to the beloved taildragger. I love the challenge.
