Oshkosh Seaplane Base 2012

If I have any regrets about AirVenture 2012 its that I never made it over to the Seaplane base. I kept bumping into people all week long who’d taken the EAA bus over and they were raving about the picturesque seaplane base, the aircraft and talking about the slower, laid back pace compared to the high activity & noise level at AirVenture.

Turns out there were some taildragger beauties hanging out over there and the ONE I kept hearing about was a mysterious, gorgeous Cessna 195 on floats.

BTW, all but one of these seaplane base pictures is courtesy of “Mooney Bob”. If you came to our Lady Taildragger fly-in in June I hope you got to meet him and if you were at our LLT lunch at OSH on Friday I know you got to meet him. Bob was one more person that told me he went to the seaplane base and it made my day when he showed me his great pictures.

Looking through his shots I decided I need to get my butt to the seaplane base next year and spend some time relaxing and soaking in the sights and sounds.

Cubs …..or Cub clones?!

And about that mysterious Cessna 195!  I found out it’s owned by Troy MacVey of Milan, Indiana who operates Mac’s Seaplane Service on the Ohio River in Rising Sun, Indiana. Troy gives rides and trains pilots seeking their seaplane certification.

MacVey’s 1949 Cessna 195 won the gold “Lindy” award this year – named for Charles Lindbergh – at AirVenture on July 28.

“It is just a beautiful art-deco style aircraft. Very rare,” Troy MacVey.

The EAA’s 2012 Aircraft Gold Award Winner in the Seaplane Category was NC7422X, this 1949 Cessna 195 owned by Troy MacVey of Milan, Indiana.

Mystery solved and the best part is the 195 is based in Indiana ….. just like me.  Guess where I’m headed this weekend?!!

Judie, how cool is this! I had no idea who owned the beautiful C195 and only came across the info about your husband by accident. So you’re a lady taildragger pilot too? Very nice! Please Register so we can get you on-line – with even more pictures. Didn’t I read you two also have a C140 on floats? Yes, we must get together. I’m at MQJ in Indy and fly a Rans S7.

    Hi Ladies,

As a matter of fact, that beautiful Cessna 195 Seaplane that won the “Lindy” is co-owned by a woman…She (yes I said she) is a beauty, and soooo much fun to fly. We had a great time at the Seabase. It is so pretty there and much cooler then at the Airport. Please do come over next year, we will be there or better yet come and fly with us, we are based in Rising Sun, on the Ohio River.
