3 Yellow Cubs Formation Flights!
June 3rd, 2011 | 3 Comments
Diana Votaw’s getting darn good at creating great little videos and here’s a new one to prove it! Of course, how could they help being great, she’s flying low over the OK18 area with 2 other Cubs!
In the video, the tag “April Lands” is April Nesin flying with Diana and she might be a new LLT to come? Oh, and when you see something strange coming out of one of the Cubs a couple times – it’s the toilet paper game!
And yes, not sure how we made the cover shot but that’s me and Boyd and Melanie Amos dancing around Diana’s Cub. She’s probably thinking “would ya get outta my way so I can fly this thing!”

WOW, you’re going to love these videos! Ever look down at a 1500′ grass strip and wonder if you can get it in there? These are the guys (maybe gals too I hope) that have a right to laugh at us weenies! Take a look at 3 videos from the famous May Day STOL competition in Alaska. The winner, an experimental stretched version of a Piper Pacer known as a “Producer”; landing 30 feet! (thanks Todd)
OK, now that you’ve seen how it’s done, here’s more of the competition!
And if you’re like me and want to see some beautiful Alaskan scenery along with your competition shots, this one’s for you.

Ohio Bush Pilots, to Alaska
May 3rd, 2011 | No Comments
Crank up the volume and enjoy this one from John Graham!
“This was our 2010 trip to Alaska. We started by stopping off at the super cub fly-in at Johnson Creek, ID. From there, we flew to Porthill, ID (a grass strip) for our border crossing, then up a beautiful remote mountain valley, which we called the Pre-Trench. After doing that part, the actual Trench we flew was mild.
These slides are of the first part of the Alaska portion of the trip. The cabin at the end of the slide show is what we rented for a base camp for the next two weeks of exploring.”
Song is Eric Lindell’s “All Alone”.

Three Tricky Little Cessna 185 Airstrips
January 6th, 2011 | 2 Comments
This video is from the New Tribes Mission blog and forwarded to me by Cy Galley. The pilot is Brian Pruett who along with his wife are missionaries serving in the Philippines with Aviation. Brian says “This post is for all the pilots and dreamers who enjoy this kind of stuff. I filmed some landings and takeoffs at three of our more interesting airstrips. We are getting into rainy season now and I am learning that these airstrips are completely different when wet. It’s not only the slippery surface that’s a challenge, but all the rainy weather and low clouds make for a challenging trip as well.”
