A Find for Aviation Book Lovers

This post is meant for collectors of historical aviation books, those in the habit of searching beyond Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

On our flight around the rim we found a hidden treasure at Byrd Aviation Books near Williamsburg, Virginia thanks to a suggestion from Supercub pilot Bill Tracy. Weathered-in for 5 days at Norfolk, Virginia, it was a treat to find an aviation connection worth its weight in gold. Byrd Aviation Books was a hidden jewel tucked into a residential neighborhood, well worth the search.

Owner Bill Byrd works away while Boyd and Barbara Byrd chat away on a rainy weekday morning.

“We have over 3,000 aviation titles in stock, the subject focus is early aviation, pioneer, WW I & WW II, a large supply of back-issue magazines.”

I couldn’t leave without this hardback book but how could I continue to overload our RV7 on our flight around the Rim? USPS was the answer!

I was very happy to find a small, but well stocked variety of books featuring female aviators.

As amazing as it was to discover these passionate guardians of an aviation time capsule, Mr. & Mrs. Byrd are about to retire. They are disposing of their collection. Barbara Byrd reports Bill has decided to let some of his books go from his private collection (approximately 4,000 titles). I have started listing them and will continue to do so. If you are looking for a particular title – send us an e-mail, he just might have a copy. If you would like to be notified when the recent finds & new arrival page goes up, please send us an e-mail, subscribe@byrdaviationbooks.com.”

Here’s a sample of a few of the titles I happened to snap a photo of.

You will receive a welcome reception from Barbara and Bill. If you have an interest, please tell them I sent you.
