W&C Aircraft Works and its supporters sponsor a luncheon fly-in one Saturday every June focused on builders and owners of Van’s Aircraft. This event offers a unique opportunity in central Iowa to see a large group of flying RVs, visit with the pilots, and engage in a little “show and tell”. In addition to RVs, the event draws other experimentals, a contingent of Cubs, Super Cubs, and a number of warbirds.
W&C Aircraft Works is located on the Boone Municipal Airport, Galen Wiley Field (KBNW), Boone Iowa.

Since its always interesting to see the airports our gals fly out of, here are a couple pictures and info from the Airport of Boscomantico website.
“Our airport, surrounded by the river Adige, is located north of the romantic town of Verona, where Shakespeare set the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, at the foot of the green hills of Valpolicella, famous all over the world for the quality of their wine.”

“You will be welcomed with courtesy and hospitality and you will find the facilities our position offers; the airport is a few minutes from the centre of Verona and an hour of flight from the wonderful lagoon of Venice and the charming island of Elba.”
$100 Hamburger anybody? Airport restaurant on the field!

I used to fly with my German Shepherd, Bapsy, and would often bring it in to an airport (always a crosswind it seems), get out of the plane with the big dog and the guys hanging around would gape at me and invariably say something like; “Did you fly that in here?” as they looked around for some man to get out of the plane. I would answer, “No”, pause (collective sigh of relief), “The dog did”.
I’m on my second engine since getting it about 10 years ago. I’ve added a Garmin 530W and very recently a S-TEC 55X (Oh so nice on those long IFR legs IMC…
Do you guys put together any ‘camping’ weekends ever? The 180 club does but mostly in the west and hard to get to/from Ohio just for the weekend. Something to think about..

Amelia Earhart’s Last Days

Amelia Earhart
Is Nikumaroro Island the final resting place of Amelia Earhart? If you’re paying attention at all, you know there’s evidence indicating the remains of both Amelia Earhart & Fred Noonan may be on the island of Nikumaroro. I was skeptical when I heard the report last week; after all, it’s been 73 years since they disappeared. Countless books have been written about them and a never ending supply of theories about their disappearance continue to trickle in. But this latest report to make headlines is, without a doubt, the most compelling ever published and actually sounds possible. The final determination could be months away but in the meantime, I’m waiting for the DNA testing to return - like everybody else.

According to Executive director of the International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery, Ric Gillespie, “After 22 years of rigorous research and ten gruelling expeditions, we can say that all of the evidence we have found on Nikumaroro is consistent with the hypothesis that Earhart and her navigator Fred Noonan landed and eventually died there as castaways. Whether or not the phalanx bone yields human DNA, there is a sufficient preponderance of circumstantial evidence to continue our research with hope and determination.”
The following link is to a story done by “Good Morning America” that’s intriguing and sure to get your mind wondering if… just maybe, the mystery might soon be solved!

December 12th, 2010 | No Comments
Dianne Wieman from Texas writes;
“Judy, other than being one of the out of job statistics, my Champ and I are doing great! We do not fly very far lately (even gas costs money!) although we have visited the glider field and took several ladies for special rides.”
Dianne’s Champ N84427
“I signed off Laura for her private pilots certificate and she made it! The other young lady is a student pilot and was having some difficulty with her crosswind landings, we flew some in her trainer to help her before we went for the ride in the Champ! I am doing some glider instructing and working on finding a job! My CAP cadets are about to finsh their model rocket program by shooting their last “BIG” rocket for completion!”
