Sarah Kelly is based at Chilhowee Gliderport, Benton, Tennessee (92A)
A little flying history. I grew up in British Columbia Canada (I am a dual citizen) and learned to fly there in ultra-lights when I was 13 years old. When I was 16 I bought half of the 1948 Piper Vagabond, then registered as C-FWCD, now N222SK. We have been everywhere together, including flying out to Tennessee where I now live in March 2003. For the past 5 plus years I have owned and operated Chilhowee Soaring Association, Inc. a commercial gliderport in Eastern TN. Besides the Vagabond which I own personally, the business owns and I tow with a Piper Pawnee and a Callair A-9 towplane. I do a lot of towing and a lot of glider instruction. I do a little tailwheel training, but not in my precious Vagabond, only for those who need help, checkouts, flight reviews, etc in their own aircraft. I have flown a lot of tailwheel aircraft, in fact most of my power time is in tailwheel training. I’ve never bothered to separate the tailwheel time from the rest.
You can read about me in the last chapter of Sparky Barnes Sargent’s book entitled “A Hunger for the Sky”. If you haven’t seen it yet you will want to get a copy as it highlights 8 different women in aviation who the author knows personally and has been inspired by. You can read about the book here: http://home.windstream.net/av8terz/book.html.
