Louise flies a 1937 & 1945 Tiger Moth and a 1957 Chipmunk all built by DeHavilland. She has dual residences; San Diego, CA based at Palomar Airport (KCRQ) and Bedford, England based at Cambridge Airport (EGSC).

All the DeHavillands mentioned are all tailwheel, and all oily and lovely! I also worked for a barnstorming company who owned a T6, 2 Travelair 4000 biplanes and a Beech 18. Again, all had their 3rd wheel in the right place. My aim is to set an Aviation World Speed Record in the oldest, slowest plane I can find, open cockpit is of course all the better!
First Tiger Moth I ever flew!
Friend Paul’s Antanov AN-2, 5-tons of big Russian biplane!
In England I live about 10 minutes from Woburn Abbey. The Duchess of Bedord started the Moth Rally and she was quite a character. The little airfield I fly from hosts the twice yearly Moth Forum where all the Moth pilots come to renew their Display Authorizations and learn from each other.
Rachel lives in Des Moines, Iowa and is based at AMW.
Rachel and her Stearman
I’m a new pilot (well under 100 hours yet) and have just started working on getting my first rating – a tailwheel endorsement. I fly a 1943 Stearman PT-13 (Army colors). I fly whenever I get the chance, which is never enough. I’ve been lucky enough to fly and catch rides in a variety of birds, and I’ve even started a website to track my – and my husband’s – adventures www.halffastadventures.com. I love fly-ins of any kind… from small potlucks to OSH. And in early September I make my annual pilgrammage to Blakesburg, Iowa, for the national antique airplane fly-in and then to Galesburg, Illinois for the national Stearman fly-in.
Terri Hull – 47. Married to Bob since 1984, two daughters ages 20 and 15.
Started flying in 1986, only because I didn’t have the finances and connections to start flying earlier. I own N77161, a 1946 Cessna 140 based at PLD (Portland, IN). I’ve owned 161 since November 1991 and enjoyed every minute since then.
Cessna 140
I became a CFI in 1990 and ran my own flight instruction business for almost 11 years then went to Mesaba Airlines (aka Northwest Airlink) in January, 2001. Flew the Saab 340 turboprop for 5 1/2 years as First Officer and Captain then went to NetJets Aviation in August 2006 where I fly the Citation Excel and XLS. Type rated in the SF340, Boeing 737 and CE560XL/XLS but really love taildraggers!
I love to fly and have had the privilege of flying many types of airplanes over the years but my 140 gives me the most pleasure because it’s all mine!
“I am 49 years old born 06-15-60, got my PPL when I was 17 and my CFI at 19. Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Own and operate my own airplane (Cubcrafters Sport Cub S2) and airplane business. I Love to take pictures and I’m trying to get better at aerial video! Have three children and my oldest daughter, Julia, has her PPL and flies taildraggers when she can. ”

Since I love an adventure, and my husband is willing to join me in anything that involves flying in an airplane, we decided to take 3 days and try to fly the shoreline all the way around the state of Michigan. We made the trip this past weekend, trading the pilot seat back and forth, but had to cut some corners to get back home before the thunderstorms moved in. We accomplished our goal, albeit with a modified flight plan and incredible headwinds most of the time. Here’s just a few pictures of our trip around the “mitten” with overnights in Alpena on the Lake Huron side and Traverse City on the Lake Michigan side.
